UK Weather Alert: Cold Front Before Bank Holiday Heatwave
14 May
Summary
- Cold northerly winds and showers are expected this weekend across the UK.
- Temperatures are predicted to reach the low 20s by the bank holiday weekend.
- High pressure is expected to dominate from Thursday, bringing more settled conditions.

This weekend, the UK can expect cold northerly winds and showers. Saturday will be the drier day, though mornings will be chilly, especially in northern areas and Wales, with highs around 15-16C. Sunday is forecast to bring heavy downpours, particularly in southern England, with temperatures dipping to 11-12C in the southwest and western Wales.
Looking ahead, a warming trend is predicted from Thursday onwards. Temperatures are expected to rise above average for May, approaching 20C in southern areas. By the bank holiday weekend, some regions, especially in the South East, could experience temperatures closer to the mid-20s as high pressure begins to dominate the weather system.
The Met Office's long-range forecast indicates changeable conditions with rain showers initially between May 18-27. More settled weather is expected later in the period as high pressure builds from the south. Temperatures should recover and potentially become rather warm by the end of May, particularly in the South, with winds becoming lighter.
