UK Braces for Thunderstorm Chaos
3 Aug
Summary
- Yellow thunderstorm warning issued for six UK areas.
- Short-term power cuts and service disruptions are likely.
- Residents advised to prepare for heavy rain and possible flooding.

Major disruption is anticipated across six areas of the UK as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms. This warning is in effect for the entirety of Northern Ireland from midday tomorrow until 9 p.m. The forecaster has advised that a short-term loss of power and other services is likely.
Showers are expected to develop and become heavy, with localized thundery activity in the afternoon. These slow-moving downpours could bring 20 to 30mm of rain within a couple of hours. Strong, gusty winds and hail are also possible with the most intense showers, which are predicted to ease into the evening.
In addition to potential power outages, residents in the affected areas are advised to consider their flood risk and prepare accordingly. Checking road conditions before any journeys is also recommended. The Met Office also provides guidance for those caught outside, advising shelter in a car and avoiding trees or other structures during thunder.
