UK Braces for Snow Blast: Wintry Showers and Gales Ahead
12 Mar
Summary
- Cold air sweep south brings wintry showers and hill snow.
- Temperatures drop sharply to single figures by evening.
- Risk of frost and icy patches developing by dawn.

A significant change in weather is imminent for Britain as a cold front moves in, threatening wintry conditions. Thursday will start mild, with temperatures in England and Wales reaching up to 14C. However, this warmth will be short-lived.
By Thursday evening, temperatures will plummet into single figures. Showers are expected to turn increasingly wintry, particularly over higher ground in Scotland, the Pennines, Cumbria, and Wales. Sleet and snow are possible at low levels overnight in western and northern Scotland.
Into Friday, hill snow is forecast for Northern Ireland and northern England. The colder air could also lead to the development of frost and icy patches in rural locations by dawn, presenting hazardous driving conditions.
