UK Flood Alert: Heavy Rain to Soak 23 Areas
14 Jan
Summary
- Met Office issued a Yellow weather warning for heavy rain.
- Twenty-three key areas across the UK face major downpours.
- Potential for surface water flooding and travel disruption.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for heavy rain, anticipating significant downpours in 23 areas of the UK. This alert is in effect until the end of tomorrow, following recent days of severe weather, including an Arctic blast and widespread flooding.
The warning covers much of London, South East England, and South West England. A deepening low-pressure system is expected to bring persistent and heavy rain, with potential accumulations of 40mm to 50mm in isolated spots. This rainfall could exacerbate existing flooding on saturated ground, leading to surface water flooding.
Authorities advise residents in affected areas to check their properties for flood risks, prepare emergency flood kits, and consider flood plans. Commuters should anticipate possible disruptions to bus and train services, as well as longer journey times due to spray and flooded roads.
