UK Braces for Flood Chaos: Yellow Rain Warning Issued
5 Feb
Summary
- Yellow rain warning in effect for parts of England and South Wales.
- Heavy showers could cause surface flooding, disrupting power and travel.
- Scotland also faces rain and melting snow warnings for travel disruption.

Showery rain is expected across much of the UK, with forecasters issuing a yellow weather warning for rain impacting large areas of the south east and south west of England, and parts of South Wales. This warning is in effect until just before midnight on Thursday. The Met Office anticipates that periods of rain and heavy showers will likely cause surface water flooding in affected locations.
Between 10-20mm of rain is expected widely, with some areas potentially seeing over 30mm. This could lead to flooding in some homes and businesses, and possible interruptions to power supplies. Separately, a yellow warning for rain covers a part of Scotland from Wednesday evening to midday Thursday, where rain and melting snow may cause travel disruption and flooding.
On Thursday morning, 62 flood warnings and 145 flood alerts were in place across England. Meteorologist Alex Deakin noted that low pressure systems from the southwest will bring cloud and rain, with a general chill expected. While the south coast may experience above-average temperatures, many other areas will be colder, feeling even more so due to the wind, particularly on North Sea coasts.
