UK Snow Alert: Essentials Shoppers Warned
2 Feb
Summary
- Yellow weather warnings for snow issued in Scotland.
- Up to 20cm of snow possible over higher ground.
- Wintry weather expected in other UK regions later this week.

The UK is bracing for a significant spell of wintry weather this week, prompting warnings for supermarket shoppers. The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings specifically for snow across parts of Scotland. These warnings are in effect from Tuesday into Wednesday, with initial rainfall expected to transition into sleet and snow.
By Wednesday, accumulations of up to 3cm of snow are predicted for areas situated above 100 metres. Significantly, higher elevations could see as much as 20cm of snow accumulate. Lower-lying areas are forecast to experience a combination of rain, sleet, and snow, accompanied by strong winds, which could lead to blizzard-like conditions.
Beyond Scotland, Met Office weather maps indicate that wintry conditions are set to affect other parts of the UK. Possible snowfall is anticipated over regions including Yorkshire, Lancashire, the East Midlands, North East, and West Midlands on Wednesday and Thursday. This widespread forecast suggests a notable shift towards colder, more hazardous weather across the country.
