UK Snow & Ice Alert: Warnings Issued Across Nation
15 Feb
Summary
- Yellow snow and ice warnings cover most of Scotland and England.
- Over 70 flood warnings and 163 flood alerts remain active.
- Around 330 homes have been flooded despite protection efforts.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been activated across extensive areas of the UK as the nation transitions from persistent rain to wintry conditions. These warnings are in place for most of Scotland and significant portions of England, expected to remain until 10 AM on Sunday.
The Environment Agency has issued a strong call for public vigilance due to the persistent flood risk. Currently, 74 flood warnings and 163 flood alerts are active across England. Despite efforts that have protected over 24,000 homes and businesses, around 330 properties have unfortunately been flooded.
The Met Office forecasts that rain falling overnight Saturday into Sunday will turn to snow, even at lower elevations, before transitioning to rain as milder air arrives from the west. Ice is also anticipated as a hazard, particularly in northeastern England and parts of Scotland, potentially leading to very slippery conditions. By Sunday morning, snow is expected to turn to rain, possibly with a brief period of freezing rain before clearing.
Looking ahead, Sunday will begin with blustery weather and showers, accompanied by some snow on higher ground. Milder temperatures are predicted for the southwest, with Cornwall and Devon potentially reaching 12C, while eastern areas will be colder. The upcoming week is forecast to be unsettled with further showers, easing on Tuesday before another weather system brings unsettled conditions on Wednesday. Thursday is expected to be drier.
