UK Braces for Late March Snow Bomb!
14 Mar
Summary
- Millions of Brits could experience snow by March 29.
- Major cities like London and Birmingham may be impacted.
- Temperatures could drop as low as -11C in Scotland.

The GFS weather model forecasts a significant chance of snow across the UK before the end of March, potentially affecting millions. Snowfall is anticipated to begin in Scotland on March 28 and move south, with heavy flurries expected over northern England by the evening. By March 29, snow could reach the south coast, impacting cities like Bristol and London, with London possibly experiencing several hours of snow.
Coverage maps suggest up to 70% of the UK could be under snow by March 29, excluding Northern Ireland, Wales, and parts of western England and Scotland. Dramatic temperature drops are also expected, with lows of -11C in Scotland and -2C in Wales. London's temperatures may struggle to exceed 2C during this period.
The Met Office indicates an increased likelihood of colder weather from late March into early April. They predict a build-up of high pressure, leading to prolonged periods of either settled or unsettled weather. While Atlantic weather patterns may lessen, some wet weather is possible, especially in the south and east, with northwestern areas potentially being drier than average. Temperatures are expected to be near average overall, but with a higher chance of temporary cold spells and frost.
