UK Braces for Pollen Apocalypse: Red Alert Issued!
16 Jun
Summary
- Red pollen alerts issued for London, East, and South East England.
- Nearly a quarter of UK adults suffer from hay fever symptoms.
- Temperatures are set to exceed 30C across parts of the nation.

High pollen levels have prompted the Met Office to issue red warnings across significant portions of the UK. London, South East England, and East of England are particularly affected, with approximately 25 million residents alerted to "very high" pollen counts.
These warnings are in effect on Tuesday, June 16, with extended red alerts for the East of England through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The surge in pollen coincides with rising temperatures, with mercury levels expected to surpass 30C in some areas.
Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is a common condition affecting nearly a quarter of UK adults and one in ten children. It occurs when the immune system overreacts to harmless pollen, typically intensifying during the warmer summer months from late March to September.
