UK Heatwave: Warm as Madrid This Week!
16 Mar
Summary
- Parts of the UK will experience spring weather as warm as Madrid.
- Wednesday is forecast to be the warmest day of the week for many.
- Chilly nights and potential air frost are still a risk despite daytime warmth.

Following a period of rain, the UK is anticipating a mini-heatwave with spring-like weather arriving by midweek. High pressure is expected to dominate, making Wednesday the warmest day for many, with temperatures potentially reaching 18-20C in parts of west Wales and western England. This warmth is partly attributed to the Foehn effect, caused by winds passing over higher ground.
The warm conditions are expected to rival those in Madrid. However, forecasters caution that clear skies will also lead to chilly nights, with a significant difference between daytime highs and overnight lows, and a risk of air frost in some locations.
While western areas of England and Wales can expect the best of the warmth, temperatures elsewhere in the UK are likely to reach the mid-teens Celsius. Tuesday may see highs of 15-17C in isolated spots, particularly in the south and west, and along the Moray Coast in Scotland. The settled weather pattern is predicted to continue through the rest of March, though occasional showers are possible in the southeast, and rain might affect the far north or northwest. Temperatures are expected to remain close to or slightly above average.
