21 Jun
Summary
- Record-breaking temperatures of 38C are predicted this week.
- Extremely high temperatures and humidity will last for days.
- Health warnings issued for vulnerable individuals and public.

The Met Office has expanded its extreme heat warning across the UK, anticipating temperatures as high as 38C this week. This potentially record-breaking June heatwave is projected to last from Monday until Thursday.
The combination of extreme heat and high humidity is expected to be oppressive, leading to significant societal impacts, including public health concerns and strain on infrastructure and utilities. Overnight temperatures will remain high, with widespread tropical nights forecast for southern England.
The alert area initially covers much of southern England and Wales, expanding by Wednesday and Thursday to include parts of Greater Manchester, Yorkshire, and Cheshire. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids and avoid strenuous activity between 11 am and 3 pm. The UK Health Security Agency has also issued heat health alerts, urging health and social care services to prepare for the extreme weather.
As temperatures are expected to be slightly lower by Friday, with highs of 33C in eastern areas, the advice remains to take sensible precautions to stay safe. Increased water safety incidents are also anticipated as more people visit coastal areas and waterways.
