Southwest England and southern Wales have experienced relentless rainfall, with rain falling every day of 2026 for 37 consecutive days. This persistent deluge has resulted in extensive flooding across numerous areas, with Somerset being among the most critically affected regions. The Environment Agency has issued 15 major flood warnings for Somerset and its surroundings, indicating a significant risk of substantial flooding.
Across England, over 100 high-level flood warnings and more than 250 flood alerts are in effect. Major flood warnings are also in place near cities such as Salisbury, Bournemouth, and Birmingham. The Met Office forecasts that the unsettled weather will continue through the upcoming week, with further rain expected, particularly in eastern Scotland, southwest England, and Northern Ireland.
