29 Jan
Summary
- Yellow rain alerts are active for parts of England and Northern Ireland.
- Over 250 flood warnings and alerts were in place across England.
- A severe flood warning threatened lives in Iford Bridge Home Park.

The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for Thursday and Friday, forecasting heavy downpours that could worsen existing flooding conditions across parts of the UK. The alert is active from Thursday afternoon until early Friday morning for London, south-east England, and south-west England. A separate warning for Northern Ireland predicts similar conditions, potentially causing transport disruption and localized flooding.
On Thursday morning, England had 76 flood warnings and 180 flood alerts in place due to saturated ground from Storm Chandra. The approaching rain is expected to be intense, with 10-15 mm widely anticipated and up to 20-25 mm in some southern areas. The risk of impacts is heightened by the current waterlogged state of the ground.
A severe flood warning, indicating a danger to life, remained active for the Lower Stour at Iford Bridge Home Park, where residents were instructed to evacuate. Floods minister Emma Hardy stated that the Environment Agency, local authorities, and emergency services are actively responding to the ongoing flooding in Somerset and Dorset. Teams are deploying pumps to manage floodwater, with significant efforts underway on the Somerset Levels.
