As of October 5th, 2025, the United Kingdom is bracing for a bone-chilling cold snap that is expected to grip the nation in the coming weeks. According to the latest weather data, temperatures are forecast to plummet to 0°C or below across much of the country, with several major cities set to experience lows in the single digits.
The Met Office has warned that by the early hours of October 18th, the mercury is likely to hover between 1°C and 0°C across much of Wales, and even dip to 1°C in parts of northern Scotland. England won't be spared the freeze either, with most areas waking up to lows of between 2°C and 7°C. Birmingham is expected to shiver at around 3°C, while Stoke and Cardiff could drop to 2°C, and Leeds will fluctuate between 3°C and 6°C.
The situation is even more dire in Scotland, where Dundee is forecast to hit 3°C, Glasgow between 2°C and 3°C, and Edinburgh around 4°C. Large stretches of the country east of Fort William could sink to just 1°C as icy air spreads south. Only a handful of coastal spots in southern England are likely to be spared, with temperatures potentially clinging to 10°C.
The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds in parts of Scotland, with travel disruption, power cuts, and spray or large waves expected as Storm Amy slowly clears to the northeast.
