UK Faces Autumn's First Storm as Hurricanes Approach

As of September 30th, 2025, the UK is bracing for a bout of severe weather as the remnants of two powerful Atlantic hurricanes, Humberto and Imelda, are set to impact the region this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a 37-hour yellow rain warning for western Scotland, effective from 5 pm on Thursday until 6 am on Friday. Forecasters warn that villages in the affected areas could become cut off due to the "pretty incredible rainfall totals" of up to 10 inches (250mm) expected over the highest ground.

However, the unsettled conditions are not limited to just Scotland. Meteorologists say there is a risk of the wet and windy weather spreading more widely across the UK from late Thursday, as the influence of Humberto and Imelda increases the chances of a deep low-pressure system developing near the country.

If this system materializes, the UK could see very strong winds as well as further heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, though the exact track and development of the system remains uncertain at this time. The Met Office is closely monitoring the situation and has warned that additional weather warnings may be issued later this week as confidence in the forecast increases.

While the northern and western parts of the UK are set to bear the brunt of the stormy weather, the southern and eastern regions are expected to see drier conditions and warmer temperatures in the high teens or low 20s Celsius over the next few days. However, the respite is likely to be short-lived as the wet and windy weather is expected to impact much of the country by the end of the week.
