UK Faces Soggy Bank Holiday: Rain to Lash Nation

A significant weather warning has been issued as a band of heavy rainfall is predicted to move across the UK. Beginning early Saturday morning from the southwest of England, the downpours are expected to spread northwards, affecting large parts of England, Scotland, and Wales. This initial wet spell should ease overnight into Saturday evening, offering a brief respite before a second, more prolonged period of rain arrives on Sunday.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are anticipated to be particularly impacted by the second weather system as it tracks northwest. Previous rainfall on Thursday already caused flooding in some areas, including Birmingham, leading to damaged homes and businesses. Further flooding is a concern, with specific areas like Kenilworth in Warwickshire at risk due to potential stream overflows. The Environment Agency has issued numerous flood alerts for rivers across the country.

The forecast suggests that by Sunday afternoon, nearly the entire UK could be experiencing rain, potentially continuing into Monday. This could result in some locations receiving some form of rainfall for up to 57 hours continuously. While the Met Office also predicts an unsettled weekend with blustery conditions, particularly on Saturday, temperatures are expected to be around average for late August but will drop significantly from Wednesday's peak of 28.9C.
