As of Tuesday, Typhoon Saudel was tracking towards southern Japan and northern Taiwan, bringing expectations of significant rainfall and powerful winds to the region. Japan's weather agency issued warnings for destructive gusts and high seas, particularly concerning the southwestern islands of Okinawa Prefecture. Saudel was moving at a slow pace, carrying maximum sustained winds of 162 kph and gusts up to 216 kph.
Separately, Taiwan has reported one fatality and four individuals missing due to a tropical depression that impacted its southern and eastern areas, causing widespread flooding. In Kaohsiung, rainfall from Sunday to Tuesday exceeded levels seen during the devastating Typhoon Morakot in 2009. Saudel is anticipated to bring rain to northern Taiwan from late Thursday into Friday.
Further south, China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center issued an orange alert for high waves expected in the East China Sea as Saudel approaches the coast of Fujian province from late Thursday to early Friday.
