6 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Tropical wave in central Atlantic could develop into a tropical depression
- System expected to approach northern Leeward Islands later this week
- 2025 Atlantic hurricane season forecast to be above normal

As of October 6th, 2025, the National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave in the central Atlantic that could become the next named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. The system, currently designated as Disturbance 1, is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the tropical central Atlantic.
Forecasters say environmental conditions appear generally conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next few days. The disturbance is expected to move quickly west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic, approaching the northern Leeward Islands, which include the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, by the latter part of the week.
