Tropical Storm Jerry Brews in Atlantic, Threatens Caribbean

On October 7, 2025, Tropical Storm Jerry formed over the central Atlantic Ocean, marking the 10th named storm of the 2025 hurricane season. The newly developed system is currently located more than 1,300 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands, a Caribbean chain that includes the Virgin Islands and Guadeloupe.

As of the latest advisory, Jerry had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was tracking westward at 24 mph across the open ocean. Forecasters expect the storm to steadily strengthen in the coming days and eventually grow into a hurricane. While no coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect, tropical storm watches could be required for the northern Leewards by the end of Tuesday night.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Jerry is expected to be near or north of the northern Leewards on Thursday or Friday. Although the storm is not currently expected to make landfall, the swells it generates will likely reach the islands on Thursday, causing life-threatening surf and rip currents.

This latest Atlantic storm system has emerged on the heels of several other recent hurricane developments, including Hurricane Humberto and Hurricane Imelda, which both threatened the southeastern United States with destructive surf last month.
