Atlantic's Quiet Season: Hanna Forms, No US Threat

The Atlantic Ocean has seen the formation of Tropical Storm Hanna, the eighth named storm of the 2026 hurricane season as of Monday, September 28, 2026. This storm, with winds of 45 mph, was situated approximately 870 miles east-northeast of Bermuda and was moving eastward at 17 mph. Forecasters do not anticipate significant strengthening and expect Hanna to remain far from any landmasses.

Currently, Tropical Depression Fay, a weaker system with 35 mph winds, is also being monitored. Located over 1,200 miles west-southwest of the Azores, Fay is moving south-southwest and is expected to transition into a post-tropical cyclone soon. Importantly, neither Hanna nor Fay represent any threat to the United States. The Atlantic hurricane season, which concludes on November 30, has notably experienced a record-breaking absence of hurricanes thus far in 2026, although at least one more hurricane is still predicted to form.
