Tropical Storm Edouard is on a path toward the Texas-Louisiana border and is anticipated to reach hurricane strength before making landfall around September 1. This storm is currently located more than 300 miles west of Pensacola.
In acknowledgment of the busy Atlantic hurricane season, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has proclaimed September as Florida Preparedness Month. This initiative encourages residents to enhance their disaster readiness by reviewing plans, restocking emergency supplies, and understanding evacuation routes.
Beyond Edouard, the National Hurricane Center is tracking three other tropical waves across the Atlantic basin. Tropical waves are significant as they are the initial stages for many tropical storms, contributing to a large percentage of major hurricanes annually. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity typically occurring from mid-August through mid-October.
