Bertha Churns Toward Texas After Louisiana Nudge

Tropical Storm Bertha is currently making its way toward a second landfall in Texas. Late Thursday morning, the storm was approximately 100 miles east of Galveston, moving slowly westward with sustained winds of 45 mph. This path follows Bertha's earlier brush with southern Louisiana, where it made initial landfall southwest of New Orleans on Wednesday. The storm has generated heavy surf and some coastal flooding along the Gulf Coast. However, the heaviest rainfall has remained over the Gulf waters, and no significant damage or fatalities have been reported since Bertha formed Monday. A tropical storm warning remains in effect for the coast from Morgan City, Louisiana, to Sargent, Texas. Forecasters anticipate Bertha will weaken quickly after moving onshore and dissipate over inland Texas by Friday. In the eastern Pacific, Hurricane Fausto is a Category 1 storm over 1,000 miles from Baja California, but its swells could create dangerous surf conditions in parts of Southern California.
