Trichy Traffic Chaos: Vinayaka Idol Procession Creates Diversions

Traffic diversions will be in effect in Trichy on September 16 and 17 to accommodate the annual Vinayaka idol procession and immersion ceremony in the Cauvery river near the Srirangam Cauvery bridge. The diversions are scheduled from 6 PM on September 16 to 6 AM on September 17.
City buses arriving from No 1 tollgate will be rerouted via Mambalasalai, Amma Mandapam road, and Thiruvanaikoil. Services from the Central bus terminus will terminate at Chathiram bus stand, and some inter-bus routes will be suspended. Buses from Panjapur KKBT and Central bus stand to Chathiram bus stand will also follow revised routes.
District collector Pratik Tayal recently inspected the immersion site, advising officials to install additional lighting and implement safety arrangements. Across the district, 1,068 locations have been designated for Vinayaka idol installations, with 234 in the city. A flag march was also conducted near Gandhi Market to ensure the festival's smooth progression.
