An Extreme Cold Warning and Wind Advisory are in effect for the entire Tri-State Area this upcoming weekend, signaling a period of harsh and dangerous weather. Following a cold Friday with temperatures in the low 30s and wind chills in the 20s, changes begin Friday evening with light snow showers possible overnight.
By Saturday morning, most of the snow will have moved east, leaving behind minor accumulations of one to three inches in some areas. The main story will be the severe cold front moving in. Saturday's temperatures will crash from the 20s into the teens and single digits by sunset, with wind chills expected to fall below zero by dinnertime due to 40 mph gusts.
Sunday morning will see actual temperatures in the single digits and sub-zero in northern and western parts of the region. Wind chills will range from -15 degrees near New York City to as low as -30 degrees farther north and west. Sunday afternoon will offer sunshine but only a slight temperature recovery, with highs in the teens and wind chills in the single digits.
