15 Mar
Summary
- Severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes threaten nine states on Sunday.
- Damaging winds and tornadoes are expected to develop Sunday afternoon.
- The greatest tornado and severe wind threats are in the Ark-La-Miss to Ohio Valley.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms and potential tornadoes across nine states for Sunday. This forecast signals the possibility of widespread damaging winds and tornadoes developing Sunday afternoon and continuing into the night. The most significant threats for strong tornadoes and severe winds are concentrated in the Ark-La-Miss region, extending into the Lower Ohio Valley.
The severe weather is developing ahead of a fast-moving cold front, with forecasters noting conditions are favorable for high-impact storms in populated areas. Storm development is expected along a convergent front from the mid-Mississippi Valley into the Ozarks, with increasing coverage as storms move into areas with richer moisture. By late afternoon, a significant storm system is anticipated, potentially producing large hail and strong tornadoes before merging into a widespread line.
By Sunday evening, strengthening winds are expected to favor damaging wind events across the Mid-South, expanding into the Ohio and Tennessee valleys. The risk of severe weather will become more sporadic Sunday night as instability decreases. However, renewed convection is possible near the central to northeast Gulf Coast early Monday, with potential for strong tornadoes from the Florida Panhandle toward the southern Appalachians.
