Texas Heatwave: Triple Digits Persist Through Midweek

Central Texas is currently experiencing an extreme heat risk, with no significant temperature relief forecasted through midweek. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for several counties, warning of rare and prolonged extreme heat with minimal overnight cooling. This persistent heat presents a significant challenge for those without adequate access to cooling and hydration resources.

This year has been exceptionally hot, with Central Texas recording 46 days of temperatures reaching or exceeding 100 degrees. This total significantly surpasses the climate average of approximately 30 days per year, though it remains below the 2011 record of 90 such days. August alone saw 29 days of triple-digit heat, followed by 12 in the first half of September.

While the immediate future offers little respite, there's a chance for some rainfall over the upcoming weekend. A weak disturbance approaching from the Gulf of Mexico, followed by a frontal boundary, could bring Central Texas its best opportunity for rain this month. This potential precipitation could offer a brief, welcomed break from the ongoing heat and humidity.
