Summary
- Texas experienced its first 100-degree temperatures of the year.

A strong area of high pressure has brought unusually hot weather to parts of the southern U.S. and northern Mexico, with Texas seeing its first 100-degree temperatures of the year. This extreme heat occurred in late February, a time when average high temperatures in the region are usually in the mid- to upper 70s.
Several Texas border towns registered triple-digit readings on Thursday. Laredo surpassed 100 degrees by 4 p.m., breaking its previous daily record high of 98 degrees set in 2024. While this sets a new daily record, Laredo's earliest triple-digit reading on record was Feb. 18, 1986.
Other locations also experienced intense heat, with Zapata and Cotulla reporting 103 degrees, and Falfurrias reaching 100 degrees. Forecasters anticipate a slight cool-down by Friday, with highs in Laredo expected to reach near 90 degrees, though this remains well above the seasonal average.
