An extreme heat watch has been issued for much of Middle Tennessee, with dangerous and potentially record-setting temperatures expected to affect the eastern two-thirds of the nation this week. The heat advisory, which began Sunday, June 28, will transition to an "extreme heat watch" starting Monday afternoon. Residents can anticipate daily heat index values exceeding 100 degrees.
Temperatures are projected to reach 101 degrees later in the week, with the heat index remaining above 100 degrees each day through Thursday, July 2. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions increase the likelihood of health impacts for anyone without adequate hydration or cooling. Moderate heat risks are expected to continue through July 5, with highs near 90 degrees in Nashville.
