Telangana braces for thunderstorms & cooler weather
19 Mar
Summary
- Telangana expects rainfall and thunderstorms on March 18, 2026.
- Maximum temperatures to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius statewide.
- Weather shift linked to a trough from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

Hyderabad and other districts across Telangana are anticipating rainfall and thunderstorms on March 18, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a gradual drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over the next few days, potentially alleviating recent heatwave conditions. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by lightning and winds up to 40 kmph, is expected in numerous districts until March 20.
This shift in weather is influenced by a trough extending from north interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. Affected districts include Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Rangareddy, and Hyderabad, among others. The IMD has issued warnings about thunderstorms and lightning, advising people to avoid seeking shelter under trees or near electric poles.
Farmers are concerned about potential crop damage, particularly to mango and chilli harvests, due to the unseasonal rain and strong winds. However, the anticipated temperature drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius, brought by increased cloud cover and rainfall, is expected to provide welcome relief from the prevailing heat across the state.
