Telangana Drenched: Rain Relief After Deficit

Telangana has received substantial rainfall in recent days, alleviating a significant rain deficit and offering much-needed relief to the state's agricultural sector. The deficit, which was once as high as 33%, has narrowed to 10% as of Thursday morning. However, the distribution of rain remains uneven, with 13 out of 33 districts still experiencing less than 20% of their normal rainfall. Notably, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district faces a severe deficit of 65%.

In response to the forecast of intense showers, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for isolated areas in five northern districts: Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, and Jagtial. These areas are expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 204mm in 24 hours, accompanied by strong winds until July 31st. Light to moderate rain is predicted for most other parts of the state.

The heavy rains on the night of July 29th caused considerable waterlogging and traffic disruptions in Hyderabad. Across the state, overflowing rivulets have impacted normal life. In anticipation of further adverse weather, Cyberabad Traffic Police advised IT companies to consider work-from-home options and staggered early logouts to mitigate travel risks and traffic congestion.
