Telangana Chills: Cold Wave Alert Issued!
10 Dec
Summary
- Telangana faces a cold wave alert for seven districts starting December 9th.
- Minimum temperatures are expected to drop significantly below normal.
- Several districts recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius recently.

Telangana is set to experience cold wave conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for seven districts. This severe weather is expected to bring minimum temperatures significantly below the usual, with forecasts indicating a drop of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Residents can anticipate mist and hazy conditions, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours.
The IMD's report from December 8th highlighted that minimum temperatures in Telangana were already markedly below normal, by approximately 5.1 degrees Celsius the previous day. Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) between December 7th and 8th morning mornings revealed that a dozen districts recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, with Kohir in Sangareddy district registering the lowest at 7.2°C.
These cold conditions are attributed to prevailing weather systems, including a trough in the easterlies over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the lower tropospheric levels. The state is advised to prepare for the sharp drop in temperatures and potential for early morning fog.
