Delhi and NCR Hit by Surprise Autumn Showers

In the early hours of October 7th, 2025, Delhi and adjoining cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) continued to receive intermittent rain, a result of the first strong western disturbance of the post-monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the national capital, with all districts of Delhi under the warning.

The prolonged rainfall has led to a significant drop in temperatures across the region. On Monday, October 6th, Delhi's maximum temperature settled at 26.5 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal for this time of the year - the lowest October maximum since 26.2 degrees Celsius was recorded on October 17, 2023. The minimum temperature on Monday was 20.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

IMD officials stated that the rain is likely to continue on Tuesday, October 7th, with a marginal reduction in intensity. They also predicted that northwesterly winds from Wednesday may push the minimum temperature below 20 degrees Celsius. The western disturbance has also caused fresh snowfall in the upper Himalayas.

Neighboring cities in the NCR, such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, have also been affected by the unseasonal weather. Gurugram recorded a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius on Monday, nearly 6 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day, marking one of the sharpest dips of the season.
