Spain Braces for Polar Blast: 10C Drop Expected

Spain is set to experience an abrupt and unseasonable cold spell this weekend. A mass of polar air originating from Iceland is pushing south, bringing a sharp decline in temperatures across much of the country. Many areas could see readings drop approximately 10 degrees Celsius below the typical early May average.

This influx of cold air from northern latitudes is expected to create highly changeable weather patterns. Inland regions are likely to feel the most significant temperature drops. While coastal Mediterranean areas and southern Spain may escape the most extreme chill, temperatures will still remain below average.

Widespread rainfall is forecast to affect large portions of the peninsula, with northern and western regions anticipating the heaviest downpours. The potential for thunderstorms exists in several locations, some of which could become severe, bringing hail and strong wind gusts.

Additionally, elevated areas have a chance of experiencing snowfall. The Cantabrian mountains and the Pyrenees are the most probable locations for snow accumulation. However, other northern and central mountain ranges might also see lighter, more isolated snow showers.

The weather conditions are anticipated to gradually improve by Sunday as the cold front begins to move away from Spanish territory.
