South Florida Heatwave: Dangerously High Temps Ahead

South Florida residents are experiencing a hot start to the workweek, with Monday's high temperatures forecast to reach the low 90s. The heat index is expected to climb into the upper 90s and low 100s, exacerbated by humidity. This elevated heat will persist throughout the week, with daily highs remaining near 90 degrees and scattered storms expected.

In addition to the heat, coastal areas should be aware of potential minor saltwater flooding due to higher-than-normal king tides. The Atlantic beaches face a low risk of rip currents, and the UV index is very high. Boaters are advised that no alerts or advisories are in effect for Atlantic or Keys waters.

Looking ahead, the chance of rain remains low through Tuesday, benefiting from drier air. However, increased moisture mid-week is expected to raise rain chances again. Farther out, forecasters are monitoring a low-pressure system over the central subtropical Atlantic. This system, located over 1,000 miles east-southeast of Bermuda, has a 30% chance of developing as it travels west-northwest later this week.
