Coastal Flooding Looms as King Tides Batter South Florida

As of October 7th, 2025, South Florida is bracing for a week of unsettled weather, with scattered showers and storms forecast to move across the region. Highs are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s, accompanied by a breezy onshore wind that could gust up to 30 mph.

The strong onshore breeze is leading to hazardous beach and boating conditions. A high risk of rip currents along the Atlantic beaches has made it unsafe for swimming, and a small craft advisory has been issued for boaters along the Atlantic waters, though no such alerts are in place for the Keys.

Adding to the challenges, a coastal flood advisory remains in effect through October 8th due to the higher-than-normal king tides. Saltwater coastal flooding is possible along low-lying areas during high tide times, which are expected to occur around 9:34 a.m. and 9:46 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, 9:20 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. in Miami, and 10:57 a.m. and 10:38 p.m. in Key West.

The king tides, exacerbated by the strong easterly winds pushing water onshore, are expected to continue causing issues throughout the week. South Florida is forecast to remain unsettled on Wednesday, with more passing showers and storms, before a cold front moves in this weekend, bringing drier air and a slight taste of fall.
