10 Sep
Summary
- Low-pressure system brings heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to NSW
- Central Tablelands hit with over 60mm of rainfall overnight
- Coastal regions under gale warnings and hazardous surf conditions

On September 10th, 2025, a powerful low-pressure system has swept across New South Wales, bringing severe weather conditions to the region. Millions of Australians in NSW awoke to grey skies and heavy rainfall, with the Central Tablelands being hit particularly hard.
Overnight, the towns of Mudgee and Orange recorded rainfall totals of 60mm and 53mm respectively, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong wind gusts of up to 90km/h. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings for the Illawarra, South Coast, and Southern Tablelands, with heavy rainfall and gale-force winds expected to continue throughout the day.
Coastal areas are also on high alert, with a gale warning in place for the Illawarra and Batemans Coast. The Byron Coast, Coffs Coast, and other regions along the NSW shoreline are bracing for strong winds that could potentially develop into a full-blown gale. Hazardous surf conditions have also been reported, posing a risk to anyone venturing out on the water.
According to senior meteorologist Angus Hines, the low-pressure system is expected to intensify as it moves offshore, bringing the potential for flash flooding and even more severe weather. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the system has passed.
The wet and windy conditions are forecast to spread into Queensland and Victoria later this week, with the changeable start to spring potentially signaling a wetter-than-average season for the eastern states.
