Severe thunderstorms are anticipated to move across parts of Minnesota overnight into Wednesday morning. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for western and northwestern Minnesota until 4 a.m. Wednesday. This watch extends to areas including Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, and the Fargo-Moorhead region.
Storms are expected to develop in the Dakotas and enter western Minnesota around midnight, progressing eastward. Western and central Minnesota face an enhanced risk of severe weather, with the primary concerns being damaging wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to 1.50 inches in diameter. Isolated tornadoes are also a possibility.
The Twin Cities metro has a lower risk but can expect storm chances between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday. These storms are predicted to weaken as they move east, potentially bringing strong winds and heavy rain. Wednesday itself will remain warm and humid with additional storm chances in the afternoon and evening for the metro, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois.
