Severe Thunderstorm Alert Issued for Brisbane Region
18 Jan
Summary
- Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Logan and Brisbane.
- Heavy rain and damaging winds threaten flash flooding.
- Potential for large hail also mentioned by meteorologists.

Parts of south-east Queensland are currently experiencing heavy rain and damaging winds as a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect. The Bureau of Meteorology issued the alert on Sunday morning, specifically for areas including Logan, Brisbane city, and the Moreton Bay Council region. These weather conditions pose an immediate risk to residents.
The slow-moving thunderstorms are capable of producing intense rainfall, leading to concerns about flash flooding. Areas near the Brisbane CBD, Woodridge, and Camp Hill are particularly vulnerable. Meteorologists have also indicated the possibility of large hail accompanying the storm, further increasing the potential for damage.
Senior meteorologist Felim Hanniffy noted on Saturday that the storms carried the potential for significant impact. The warning urges caution as the severe weather system moves through the region.
