Severe Storms Threaten Metro Detroit Wednesday

Severe thunderstorms are anticipated to develop across Southeast Michigan on Wednesday afternoon and into the early evening. This activity is associated with an approaching cold front. The National Weather Service has issued warnings, placing northern Metro Detroit under a marginal risk and the southern parts under a slight risk for severe weather.

The most favorable window for these storms is expected between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET. While most storms are predicted to remain below severe thresholds, any that intensify could produce hazardous conditions. These include damaging straight-line winds, which are the main concern, along with large hail, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. The possibility of an isolated tornado also exists.
