Rajasthan Heatwave Broken by Dust Storms and Hail
2 May
Summary
- Dust storms, rain, and hailstorms offered relief in parts of Rajasthan.
- Barmer recorded the highest temperature at 44.6°C amidst the heatwave.
- Eastern Rajasthan's weather shift is linked to active western disturbances.

On Friday, several areas in Rajasthan experienced a welcome break from intense heat as dust storms, rainfall, and hailstorms swept through. This weather phenomenon provided temporary respite, particularly in eastern parts of the state.
Conversely, western districts remained under the grip of severe temperatures, with Barmer registering the highest reading at 44.6°C. Other cities also recorded high temperatures, exceeding 42°C. The shift in weather patterns in eastern Rajasthan is attributed to the influence of active western disturbances, a condition predicted to continue until May 6.
Following this period, most of Rajasthan is expected to experience renewed heatwave conditions. Jaipur, however, recorded a maximum temperature of 40.0°C, slightly below normal, and received 13.2 mm of rainfall. This precipitation led to cooler evening conditions and partial cloud cover is anticipated in the next 24 hours, with a possibility of thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and light rain.
