The state is bracing for a harsh winter period as these extreme conditions are expected to persist.
Dr. Khingra highlighted that newly planted orchards and vegetable crops are particularly vulnerable to the impending frost and cold waves. To mitigate potential damage, she recommended that farmers provide light irrigation to maintain soil temperature and utilize mulches or protection barriers. Regular field visits are encouraged to monitor and safeguard crops against the freezing weather.
Livestock health is also a major concern during this extreme cold spell. Farmers are advised to keep animals indoors and ensure they receive nutrient-rich feed to maintain their well-being.
