According to the latest forecasts, a powerful autumn storm named Storm Amy is set to hit the UK this weekend, bringing gale-force winds and heavy rain. The Met Office has issued a series of amber and yellow weather warnings, indicating that the storm will have a significant impact across the country.
The weather authority has warned that gusts of up to 100mph are expected, particularly in northern and western areas. The severe weather is expected to last until Sunday morning, with the risk of danger to life in some regions. The storm is the first named system of the 2025/2026 season.
The yellow and amber warnings cover most of the UK on Friday, with the strong winds and heavy rain spreading to every region on Saturday. Parts of Scotland are also under an amber warning, with the severe conditions moving northward on Saturday.
Met Office chief forecaster Neil Armstrong has stated that Storm Amy will be an "impactful autumn storm" for many in Scotland and Northern Ireland, though the effects will also be felt in northwest England, Wales, and more broadly across the UK.
