Powerful Hurricane Humberto Barrels Toward Bermuda, East Coast

In late September 2025, two powerful storm systems are posing significant threats to coastal regions. Hurricane Humberto, a dangerous Category 4 hurricane, remains a major concern in the Atlantic Ocean. As of early Monday morning, Humberto was located about 400 miles south-southwest of Bermuda, moving northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph.

The hurricane is expected to gradually turn and accelerate east-northeast by late Tuesday or early Wednesday, potentially bringing dangerous surf and high winds to Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast. Humberto's intensity may fluctuate in the coming days, but forecasters warn it will likely remain a major hurricane over the next couple of days.

Separately, Tropical Storm Imelda has formed near the Bahamas and is gradually strengthening. As of early Monday, Imelda was about 130 miles northwest of the central Bahamas, moving north at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding to parts of Cuba and the Bahamas in the coming days.

Authorities in the affected regions are taking precautions, with the Bahamas' Department of Meteorology warning residents in low-lying areas to prepare for potential property damage due to flooding. In South Carolina, Governor Henry McMaster has said Imelda could bring high winds, heavy rain, and flooding to the state, and search and rescue crews have been pre-positioned.
