District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has urged officials to finalize all preparations at the 458 Chhath ghats in Patna by the stipulated deadline. A key focus is placed on robust crowd management, enhanced security measures, and ensuring adequate facilities for the expected influx of devotees. Dangerous ghats are being immediately identified, barricaded, and clearly marked as unsafe to prevent any untoward incidents.
Furthermore, officials are tasked with expediting repairs to approach roads and ensuring the timely cleaning of all ghats. Alternative sites are also being developed where necessary. Critical facilities such as sufficient lighting, changing rooms, parking areas, watchtowers, public address systems, and CCTV cameras are being installed at major ghats. Inspections of electrical wiring and temporary connections are also being conducted to mitigate safety hazards.
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is actively involved, with preparations underway at 109 ghats. This includes cleaning existing sites, permanent ponds, and the construction of 60 artificial ponds to offer alternative facilities. The Patna SSP has directed police to formulate a traffic management plan and assess security needs at the ghats. The PMC has also commenced the installation of light towers and is repairing approach roads, alongside a significant effort in repairing and replacing streetlights across the city.
