Pakistan Weather Alert: Rain, Storms Hit Today

A potent western disturbance is currently impacting Pakistan, bringing widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms across several provinces. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can expect heavy falls and hailstorms, with continued snowfall in its northern mountains. Punjab and the federal capital are bracing for significant precipitation, including isolated heavy showers and hailstorms. Moderate to widespread rain and windstorms are forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, with heavy falls and substantial snowfall anticipated in high-altitude areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued warnings for flash floods in rivers and streams of Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alongside urban flooding concerns in low-lying areas of cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Vulnerable mountainous terrain in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir faces a high risk of landslides. Weak structures, including solar panels and electric poles, may sustain damage from windstorms and hailstorms, and farmers are advised to safeguard their crops. Tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel to northern areas due to compromised visibility and road conditions. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain below normal across most of the country.
