Pacific Northwest Faces Dual Threat: Floods and Heavy Snow
4 Jan
Summary
- Heavy rainfall and significant mountain snow expected in Pacific Northwest.
- Lassen Volcanic National Park could receive up to 87 inches of snow.
- Gusty winds and coastal flooding are also anticipated in the region.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings for dangerous conditions across the Pacific Northwest and northern California over the coming days. Heavy rainfall is forecast, bringing renewed concerns of flooding similar to the devastating events of late last year. In addition to rain, significant snowfall is expected in higher elevations.
Northern California, particularly the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range, faces a substantial snow threat. Lassen Volcanic National Park could accumulate as much as 87 inches of snow in just 48 hours. Areas around Chester, Blue Canyon, and Quincy are bracing for accumulations of 2 to 5 feet above 6000 feet, with winds gusting up to 55 mph.
Precipitation will move inland, bringing moderate rain to the Pacific Northwest and a wintry mix to lower inland elevations. Snowfall is expected to intensify in the Cascades, northern Rockies, and Great Basin through Sunday. Precipitation chances are anticipated to decrease by Monday.
