Otsego County is bracing for a significant cold snap predicted for the weekend of January 24-25. Officials are closely monitoring forecasts that indicate wind-chill values could plummet to or below -20 degrees Fahrenheit. In anticipation of these hazardous conditions, the county's Office of Emergency Services has designated several warming shelters ready for activation.
These shelters are prepared to offer a safe and warm environment for residents should the extreme cold materialize. The designated locations include the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, a warming station at 291 Chestnut Street in Oneonta, and facilities at the Oneonta Armory, SUNY Oneonta, Richfield Springs Central School, and the Richfield Springs Fire Department. Updates will be provided if these shelters are opened.
For this specific weather event, Otsego County Emergency Services has also set up a dedicated after-hours contact number: 607-547-7588. This number is exclusively for inquiries related to the ongoing weather situation and is not a substitute for calling 911 for immediate emergencies.
