Ontario Braces for Record-Breaking June Storm
16 Jun
Summary
- A powerful storm is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Ontario.
- The storm could set a new record for the lowest June pressure.
- Conditions are expected to be more typical of a fall storm than a summer one.

Ontario is bracing for a significant storm system that is intensifying over the Great Lakes, with the potential to set a new record for the lowest pressure ever recorded in June. This deep low-pressure system could drop to 990 mb or lower.
Through Thursday, most regions are expected to receive between 20-40 mm of rain, with some areas potentially seeing over 50 mm. While the storm's rapid movement may limit extreme rainfall, the intensity and conditions are being described as more typical of an autumn event than a summer one.
Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are possible on Tuesday, especially in northeastern and southwestern Ontario, moving into the Greater Toronto Area overnight. By Wednesday, the storm is forecast to strengthen, bringing heavy to torrential rainfall and strong wind gusts of 80-90+ km/h, particularly overnight into Thursday morning.
Windy and wet conditions will continue into Thursday as the storm shifts eastwards. The latter part of June is predicted to be unsettled with near-seasonal to slightly cooler temperatures. Rainfall amounts are expected to be close to the seasonal average.
