One Dead, Thousands Without Power as Storm Amy Hits Ireland

The severe weather has also left approximately 234,000 properties across Ireland without power, with the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) stating that the affected areas are predominantly in counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, and Donegal. The ESB has warned that further power outages are expected, and it is likely that the majority of customers will not have their power restored tonight due to the hazardous weather conditions and accessibility challenges.
In addition to the power outages, the storm has also caused localized flooding, numerous fallen trees, and significant transport disruption, leading to school closures across a large part of Northern Ireland. The Met Office has recorded a provisional October wind gust record for Northern Ireland, with winds reaching up to 92 mph at Magilligan in Co Londonderry.
Authorities have urged residents to shelter in place and avoid unnecessary travel, as the storm continues to bring damaging winds and the potential for further damage to buildings and infrastructure.
