New York City and the surrounding Tri-State Area are bracing for significant severe weather on Tuesday, according to AccuWeather alerts. Two distinct storm systems are forecast to impact the region throughout the day.
The initial scattered storms are anticipated to emerge by late morning, primarily affecting areas north and west of New York City before reaching the city around midday. Following a brief respite in the afternoon, a more intense round of storms is predicted to develop later in the day.
This second, stronger storm system is expected between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Forecasters warn of potential damaging winds, hail, and significant rainfall leading to flash flooding. There is also a risk of an isolated tornado developing within this system. New York City and its northern and western environs are under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather, while much of New Jersey faces a Level 3 out of 5 risk. A Flood Watch is in effect for most of New Jersey and New York City, with forecasts predicting 1 to 2 inches of rain, and possibly more in isolated locations, increasing the likelihood of scattered flash flooding.
